Quinta da Encavalada is located just outside the village of Senhor das Almas near Oliveira do Hospital. From the Quinta, there are beautiful views of the Serra Caramulo mountains. The neighbouring Serra da Estrela national park is definitely worth a visit, here you will find Portugal's highest mountain, the Torre (1991 m high), an hour's drive from the quinta! The rivers, the Rio Mondego and the Rio Alva have beautiful river beaches.
This hilly area is great for hiking and cycling or making nice trips by car. In the surrounding area, the Estrela has breathtaking landscapes and glacial lakes. In the mountains of Açor and Caramulo, you can discover nature from the hiking and cycling trails. This area also offers rock climbing, abseiling, rafting, horse riding, canoeing or cycling.
If you like a market, you can visit Oliveira do Hospital monthly (Monday after the 8th), Tabua every Sunday morning, Arganil every Thursday morning and Seia every Wednesday morning.
Along the N17 a short distance from the quinta you will find L'Artista, a good pizzeria where a former world pizza baking champion is in the kitchen. Definitely recommended.
