Activities around the Quinta
In the immediate surroundings of Quinta da Encavalada there are plenty of possibilities for activities suitable for everyone.
If you want to enjoy nature, you can enjoy hiking or car rides in the national parks surrounding the quinta. By bicycle or mountain bike, you can also find great routes. Think of National Park Serra da Estela where this mountain range contains Portugal's highest peak, the Torre. Here you will also find glacial lakes and beautiful landscapes. There are also the national parks in the Serra do Açor and Caramulo mountains. Plenty of choice and different every time. There is a walk for all ages. On the Trilhos Verdes site, you can download the descriptions and coordinates of more than 10 beautiful walks in this part of central Portugal.
These areas also offer activities such as horse riding, abseiling, mountain climbing, rafting or canoeing and you can rent bikes for a nice bike ride through the beautiful countryside.
On the southern side of the region lies the River Alva. This river is known in Portugal for its pure and clear water from the mountains of the Serra da Estrela. Along the river, swimming spots with river beaches have been created in several places. For a kayaking trip, you can go to the nearby Mondego River.
A short distance away, you can visit the Museu de Azeite. Here you will find information on the centuries-old history of olive oil production and olive growing. The Museu de Azeite also houses the Olea restaurant, where it is great to have lunch with a beautiful panoramic view of the surroundings.
Located 16 km southwest of Coimbra, Coimbriga is the most important Roman site in Portugal.
Not what you might expect, but in Portugal, in the Serra da Estrela (on the Torre) you can also ski. Would you like to ski there but find the prices of properties there too expensive, then look at the possibilities in combination with renting a holiday home with us! The Torre is about a 1-hour drive away.
